The Odisha State Warehousing Corporation (OSWC) was set up in 1958 under the Agricultural Produce (Development and Warehousing) Corporations Act, 1956 which was a Central Act. The Corporation was subsequently brought under the purview of the Warehousing Corporations Act, 1962 - also a Central Act - by virtue of which the earlier Act was repealed. The functions of the OSWC is to construct godowns in the State and provide scientific storage facilities for storage of agricultural produce, seeds, manures, fertilizers, agricultural implements and notified commodities.

Physical & Financial Performance:

The OSWC has been making profits continuously since 1994-95 due to optimum utilization of its storage capacity and paying dividend to the shareholders regularly. The average capacity, percentage of utilization and profit for the last five years and current year are as follows:

Creation of Additional Capacity

As per approval of the High Level Committee constituted by the Govt. of India, the OSWC has taken up construction of 1,27,500 MTC godown at 20 locations in 16 districts of the State under PEG-2009 Scheme. Out of this capacity, the construction work for 92,000 MTC godown has been completed at 14 locations and the work for 5,000 MT godown at Dhenkanal is expected to be completed within March, 2015. The target for completion of remaining 30,500 MTC is within March, 2016. These godowns are being utilized by the OSCSC Ltd. under six years guarantee reservation scheme of FCI.
